Second Acupressure Training Camp: 9–13 Jan 96

The first acupressure (reflexology) training camp had been organized at Allahabad in Mar 1995 and most of the founding members of the Sansthan were students at this training camp. Now that some of the Sansthan members had acquired a fair knowledge of the therapy through some serious self-study as also gained valuable practical experience in treatment, they felt confident of organizing acupressure training camps by themselves.

Accordingly, the Sansthan organized the second such camp at Allahabad from 9 to 13 Jan 1996, just one year after the first camp. Shri M.P.Khemka and Shri J.P. Agrawal, the two leading lights of the Sansthan, became the trainers at this camp. About 250 trainees attended the camp. Two leading acupressure therapists from Ranchi, Shri Lal Chand Bagaria and Shri Mohan Lal Jhunjhunwala along with Shri Banarasi Lal Patodia and Shri Gokul Chand Chandak of Kolkota also attended the camp and blessed the participants.

Initiation in Sujok Therapy: 9 Mar 96

In the mean while, the Sansthan came to know about an unique invention by Prof. Park Jae Woo of Korea and who was based at Moscow, where by all acupressure treatment could be given on the palms and the feet instead of on the whole body. Prof Park had greatly simplified acupressure treatment by his marvelous invention, which concluded in the year 1987 and which he called Sujok. Prof Park is also the inventor of Onnuri medicine wherein he has propagated many variants of the traditional Chinese medicine. Prof Park’s inventions seemed a great way forward to the Sansthan.

Accordingly, the Sansthan invited Dr. Suman Motilal Shah of Kolkata, a disciple of Prof. Park and the leading authority of Sujok therapy in India at that time to come to Allahabad and train the members of the Sansthan in this therapy. Dr. Shah came to Allahabad on 9 Mar 1996 and imparted knowledge of the new therapy to about 40 members of the Sansthan. Dr. Shah also helped the Sansthan in procuring books of renowned acupressure authors of China, Korea, Japan and USA.

This knowledge of Sujok was to prove a boon to the Sansthan. The shear simplicity and effectiveness of the Sujok therapy gave a huge impetus to the Sansthan’s mass movement of taking acupressure to all corners of the country.

Third Acupressure Training Camp: 14 Aug 96

Encouraged by the response to the acupressure training camp of Jan 1996, the Sansthan organized another training camp on 14 Aug 1996. Shri M.P.Khemka and Shri J.P.Agrawal were the trainers at this camp. This camp was attended by about 300 trainees including members of the teaching, medical and judicial professions.

Spreading Wings: Establishment of Additional Treatment Centers

In keeping with its objective, the Sansthan decided to spread its wings wider and by the end of 1996, three additional treatment centers were functioning at various places at Allahabad. These treatment centers were located at:

  • Shri Draupadi Devi Hospital – commencement on 16 Feb 96.
  • Gurudwara, Naini – commencement in Mar 96.
  • Shri Maheshwari Bhavan - commencement on 10 Sep 96.

The Setting up of Sansthan’s Library

The Sansthan had started procuring professional books soon after its inception but it was during this year that a full-fledged library started functioning for the benefit of all its members. The arduous task of cataloguing, upkeep and issue of a large volume of books was undertaken by Shri Siya Pratap Singh and Ms. Ashalata Chowdhury.
